5th Grade Year-End events and Celebrations
5th grade end-of-year activities require their own planning and some fundraising. The PTA asks 5th grade families to take the lead in planning these events. This site has links to resources to help you with planning.
5th Grade Field Trip
The 5th grade teachers will decide on and coordinate the 5th grade field trip. It usually happens in early June. The is the most expensive part of 5th grade end-of-year activities. The committee is responsible for fundraising for this trip to off-set the cost to families (we don't like to ask families to pay more than $30-35/student).
5th Grade Carnival
The 5th Grade Carnival has become a tradition at NSES. On a warm, sunny day in June the 5th grade is invited to a family-coordinated and -run Carnival. The activities are up to you! In the past, activities include face painting, temporary tattoos, music, yearbook signing, dunk tank, yard games, popcorn, and popsicles. The committee is responsible for coordinating the event, sourcing the supplies/games, set-up and clean-up. Carnival flyers, notes from previous carnivals, and family sign-up sheets can be found in the 5th Grade Committee folder linked at the bottom of this page.
Class T-shirts
The 5th graders love getting their own, special t-shirts with a fun saying like, "Goodbye NSES, see ya at Middle School!", or similar. If you choose to do this, the committee is responsible for determining the design, coordinating with the vendor (we have a preferred vendor), and fundraising to off-set the costs.
5th Grade Budget
This is a sample budget from the 2023-2024 school year (class of 2024). It assumes 62 students. The PTA will provide $30/student and we suggest limiting the family contribution to no more than $30/student. The committee is responsible for fundraising the difference. A copy of this budget can be found in the 5th Grade Committee folder linked in the Resources section of this page.
Fundraising Ideas
In the past, these fundraisers have proved successful:
Selling popsicles (or other treats) at dismissal time. You can find sample coordination emails and sign-up sheets in our 5th Grade Committee folder.
50/50 raffles at NSES concerts and Talent Show. Contact newscotlandpta@gmail.com to coordinate these raffles.
Direct asks - asking family members and friends to contribute. Friends and family members can go to our MemberHub page and donate directly. Instructions:
Go to: https://newscotlandpta.memberhub.com/store/items/66869
Select "5th grade" in the earmarks drop down
Note: in addition to the donation, the donor will pick-up a fee of 50 cents plus 0.03% of their donation fee.

When seeking donations from local businesses, please give newscotlandpta@gmail.com a heads up so that we don’t double dip. Do not seek donations from Stewart’s. They only donate to our school 1x/year and we have reserved the donation for a school-wide event.
We have a preferred vendor for NSES t-shirts. If you choose to use our vendor, we’re happy to help coordinate the purchase.
The PTA is a tax-exempt organization, which means that you should not pay taxes on your purchases, and we are not allowed to reimburse tax if you spend it. Our Tax ID number is 117368, and you can show our tax exempt form (https://drive.google.com/file/d/18Oh3xwNaU4J9Z5wcKjzbLA0YEPrl3lAT/view?usp=sharing) to document our tax exempt status. Grocery items in NYS are already tax exempt.
